Staying on top of your game and ahead of the curve for over a decade is no easy feat – however it is something that DJ Ace has managed to excel at.
As an alumni from the world renown Brit Performing Arts School, Ace and his partner in troublemaking, Vis, were signed up by the brand new digital radio station, BBC 1Xtra. Their ground-breaking lunchtime show achieved cult status, gaining them an acclaimed Sony Gold award.
Their progression in radio was quick to follow – onto the acclaimed drive time slot and also covering for the likes of Trevor Nelson on BBC Radio 1. Next up was their own show on Europe’s largest youth radio station, Radio 1 – every Friday night, championing the changing face of UK urban music on the UK’s biggest network.
The duos penchant for cheekiness and troublemaking eventually awarded them the task of presenting and then hosting for the UK’s premier black music award show The MOBO’s and hosting shows for MTV which took them around the world, including specials from Japan, New York & Jamaica.
The demand for Ace’s DJ skills started racking up with gigs around the world making pit stops at world famous Ibiza and Ayia Napa venues. As well as working alongside some of the UK’s largest acts he also brought his newly formed brand “Ace Of Clubz” on the road nationally and internationally including west Africa.
Work on the UK scene continues, with residencies at BUMP, Faded & Nostalgic Nights – he recently co-started a new Hip Hop night called “The Source” and an Old school 90’s club night called “Reminisce”.
His creative streak expanded as he ventured into the world of stand up for charity. He also co-created and hosts the popular online show “Cut the Chat”, which has been described as “Loose Women” for men. Borrowing from the banter normally displayed in your local barber shop, “Cut The Chat” is a no holes barred look at life through hosts and guests who keep it very real! Recent Guests have included Adam Deacon, Tim Campbell, Boy Better Know and Doneao. He also has extended his talent to the acting world with a small role in popular British drama EastEnders spin off “E:20” and featured in the British film “It’s A Lot”.
Ace has been active in various markets – as well as gigs in Dubai and working on sold out shows from the likes of R&B singer Trey Songz, Ameriie and Amber Rose, he is also the new host of BBC 1Xtra’s 10am-1pm slot formerly presented by Trevor Nelson.
The future looks bright for DJ Ace, and with over a decade of experience under his belt we look forward to his journey to come.
